Surrey, B.C. – Coast Capital Savings once again has won two of Canada’s most prestigious business awards, earning places on the BC’s Top Employers and Canada’s Best Managed Companies lists for 2019.
Some of the initiatives that helped Coast Capital win these two awards include its dedication to empowering members to achieve what’s important to them; flexible options for work hours and training; and a commitment to investing seven percent of the organization’s pre-tax earnings into local community causes.
In addition to the two awards, the Coast Capital team is also delighted that three of its senior leaders have been named by BCBusiness magazine as among BC’s Most Influential Women 2019. This year’s list celebrates the province’s top female influencers in finance. Coast Capital VP Finance Frances Yip, along with our board directors Nancy McKenzie and Valerie Lambert, are among 96 female leaders from around the province featured in the March 2019 issue.
“I’m proud of our employees and our purpose-driven organization, and these awards are terrific recognition that Coast Capital’s values are genuinely reflected in our culture,” said Calvin MacInnis, Coast Capital’s President and CEO. “We are committed to supporting the growth and development of our employees, our members and our communities. Through our continued journey as BC’s first federal credit union, I know we can become an even better place to work and to bank, with enhanced opportunities for our staff and our members.”
This is the 18th year in a row that Coast Capital has been named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies. The designation recognizes business excellence in Canadian-owned and managed companies, focusing on an organization’s emphasis on strategy, culture and people, innovation, sustained performance, commitment to goals, and strong financial results. Companies that make the award list for seven years or more – including Coast Capital – are inducted into the Best Managed Companies Platinum Club and are required to demonstrate continued adherence to the highest standards of business performance.
This is also the 5th year that Coast Capital has been named one of BC’s Top Employers. (The previous years were 2009, 2014, 2017 and 2018.) The list, compiled by Mediacorp Canada Inc., recognizes B.C. employers who lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work. Some highlights from Coast Capital’s past year include launching new purpose and value statements developed with the input of hundreds of employees and members; receiving approval to become a federally-regulated credit union; and our focus on members’ financial well-being and creating a culture where every employee is empowered to do what’s best for members.

About BC’s Top Employers
Now in its 14th year, BC’s Top Employers is a special designation that recognizes the British Columbia employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work. Employers throughout British Columbia were evaluated by the editors at Canada’s Top 100 Employers using the same criteria as the national competition: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs. The annual competition is open to any employer with its head office in British Columbia; employers of any size may apply, whether private or public sector.
