Our Purpose Pillars: How we help build a resilient Canada

To ensure our purpose is at the heart of everything we do, we have clear pillars that guide how we invest in our members, employees and communities for maximum impact.

Bringing our purpose to life

Our social purpose business model integrates our purpose of Building Better Futures Together, through three pillars that help us provide more access to financial opportunities for people and businesses in Canada. These purpose pillars guide how we reinvest our member deposits and budgeted bottom line to build a stronger and more resilient Canada.

Accessible Education Accessible Education

As the nature of work evolves, we're investing in programs that give people more access to the career and upskilling training they need to potentially improve their earning potential.

Equitable Employment Equitable Employment

We're helping more people achieve sustainable careers in equitable workplaces, by building and investing in partnerships that will transform the employment landscape.

Inclusive Finance Inclusive Finance

We're fostering a more inclusive financial system in Canada, so people and businesses can have more access to opportunities and resources that can help them achieve their goals.

Growing the Purpose Economy
Our purpose economy

We believe purpose driven businesses will help to tackle the world's most complex systemic issues of today, while contributing to the long-term well-being of all people and the planet. We're investing in initiatives and partnerships that drive the purpose economy in Canada.

Accessible education in action

Although a majority of Canadians want to enhance their professional skills to advance their careers, 86% see significant obstacles to accessing the extra training they need.1 We're breaking down these barriers to education through our partnerships and innovative products.

We’re supporting people across Canada with more access to education and training

It's why our Elevate Chequing Account gives Coast Capital members the banking features they want, plus free access2 to Coursera's global online learning platform (Value $538/year). With 11,000+ world-class courses, programs, certificates and designations, Coursera’s online training can help you advance your career and potentially get paid more.

77% of global learners3 on Coursera report career benefits, from getting a new job and increasing their pay, to gaining skills and improving their performance at work.

Through our partnership with Coursera, we're able to fund 7,000 free Coursera licenses per year until 2026. We give these licenses to community partner participants from equity groups and non-profit organizations.

Education Awards

Accessing post-secondary education is a big financial commitment and we’re here to remove one more obstacle on young people on their path to a better financial future. We work with the following community partners to provide education awards that help students overcome barriers to achieving their full potential.

Equitable employment in action

The labour market is changing rapidly, and people in Canada are struggling to keep up. A growing dependency on part-time jobs and gig work presents new opportunities and challenges. Without stable employment and flexible hours, many find it challenging to save for their future and their families.

At Coast Capital, we believe a better future for people in Canada requires reliable, living-wage employment. We’re working hard to build the best, most inclusive workplace for our employees and champion equitable employment in the community through partnerships like the BC Centre for Ability Thrive Program.

Coast Capital THRIVE is an innovative program for young adults with disabilities that offers one-to-one coaching, mentorship, advocacy, and direct connections to employers.

In addition to operating as a social purpose organization, we want to help more businesses in Canada do the same. The Purpose Economy Project creates an enabling environment for social purpose businesses to start and grow, with a goal of 25% of Canadian businesses adopting a social purpose business model by 2030.
