Canada Post Acceptable ID Types

As part of our online membership opening process, federal legislation requires us to confirm each new member’s identity. In order to verify your identity and open your membership, we need you to visit a Canada Post location and show photo ID (must be valid and unexpired). Once Canada Post has confirmed your identity by matching your name, date of birth and current address against your application, they will notify us and you will receive an approval email within 2 business days.
Please ensure you bring 1 piece of acceptable photo ID. If the photo ID does not contain your current address matching your application, you must also bring acceptable proof of residence document.
Acceptable photo ID types:
- Canadian Driver's License
- Provincial/Territorial Photo ID (Provincial Health Cards are not accepted)
- Canadian Passport

Certificate of Indian Status Card
- Canadian Permanent Resident Card
- Canadian Forces ID/National Defense ID
Acceptable proof of residence documents:
• School, College or University Report Card or Transcript
• Vehicle Ownership or Insurance document
• Government cheque or Government cheque stub with individual’s name and address
• Major credit card statement along with related valid credit card
• Bank statement
• Recent utility bill (residential telephone, cable TV, public utilities commission, hydro, gas or water)
• Income Tax assessment – most recent
